The Lower Columbia Bowl building was erected in 1946-47 as the car dealership, Hawkins Motors. In 1956 the building was purchased by a group of local businessmen and converted into a bowling alley to provide young people with another form of recreation.
Dave Palmberg purchased Lower Columbia Bowl on January 1, 1989. Automatic scoring was installed in about 1993 making LCB the first bowling alley on the Oregon Coast to have this technology. A more modern scoring system was installed in about 2007. Synthetic lane beds were added in 2011.
Dave is the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Proprieter of the Year in the state of Oregon. He swears the excellent employees and the excellence of General Manager, Casey Gray are the reason for this honor. See what the Daily Astorian says.
Lower Columbia Bowl has been affiliated with several famous movies filmed in Astoria and the surrounding area..
